Newport Harbor High School - Galleon Volume 72
Cover | Editor's Opening | Editor's Closing | Colophon

During my sophomore year at Newport Habor High School, my art teacher, Miss Pon (now happily married with kids as Mrs. McKeon, but we still call her Pon!), who also happened to be the yearbook adviser, approached me and suggested that I join the yearbook production staff. At first, I never saw myself doing stuff like this. But I guess she caught me, so I went with it. In my junior year I was one of two on technical support, where strangely, I started a good high school relationship with someone, and made several new friends. By the time I hit my senior year, I became one of two Editor-in-Chiefs and beared many challenges such as being "adviserless" as Pon went away to have her first child and left me with the bear of dealing with school administrators and Newport's ASB. Our staff of 12 pulled off an awesome book. The comments I heard stated it was a true "classic" for its time as the 74-year-old school was facing renovations and condemnations of its original 1930 building that housed the historic bell tower. Today, the book lives its legacy in Harbor's Heritage Hall. I remember the day the books arrived from the publisher. The entire staff got the book a day before it was handed out to the seniors. Not to snob over the deal, but I think I became the most popular guy on campus that day and then some. It was a feeling like no other. Working on the Galleon staff was an expereince like no other as well. No other organizations or companies I've done work for ever came close to the "Galleon Experience". The staff and the school will always have a place in my heart.
I have posted a spot here at Brandin.com to give an inside view of what the book was all about.
